Frequently Asked Questions !

 

Q: What is the process in creating a sample for our school?

A: Once we determine your needs over the phone, Muddyford Marketing will create a to-scale mock up design which generally includes 3 or more layouts. If you have a current logo, you will be asked to email it to us, preferably in the following formats: .jpeg .cdr .ai or .eps. If it is hand drawn, please first scan and then email it to us.

We will also need to know how many mats you have running across both ends of the gym or if you have stage padding at the opposite end. The standard size per mat is (4'x6'). The mat colour is also required along with the colours you would like to see used on the mats.

Once all the information is received, you will receive a mock up via email in pdf. format generally within 5-7 business days. Once reviewed, final revisions are made and a final quote is sent back to you. A date is then set to complete the artwork at your school.

 

Q: I want my painting on the wall instead. Is the process the same?

A: Yes in most cases, however it may be necessary for an initial consultation to take place at your school to determine the location of the mural painting, the surface, the size and if scaffolding or a skyjack is required. (Please note that a school is responsible for the rental and set up of scaffolding over 6ft). Sometimes the consultation isn't needed if a good quality digital picture of the area can be taken and emailed along with the dimensions of the space to be painted.

 

Q: I want custom colours applied to the artwork to match our school colours. Is this possible?

A: When painting on wall padding we can custom match any colour using the Pantone© Colour System. This is a print media colour system however the product applied to gym mats uses the same Pantone system. All we require is the Pantone colour number/s. There is a $50 mixing charge for each custom colour ordered.

When painting murals or graphics on gym walls, colour selection is made from any of the colour palettes on the market today. A colour choice from an industry standard deck is preferred, such is C.I.L, ICI, or Benjamin Moore.

 

Q: How much does it cost to get this type of artwork done?

A: Pricing is determined based on your needs. You may select a curvier lined font with several colours and have a detailed logo or mascot which would cost more that a standard style font such as 'College' and a basic graphic with only one or two colours. The creative possibilities are endless which makes it difficult to offer a set price. Please call or go to our contact page for a quote.

 

Q: How long does it take to paint both ends of our gym?

A: On average it takes 2 full days to complete standard gym mat artwork which includes working into the evening if necessary without any rentals or permits present. Standard means at one end it may say "Welcome to...(with your school name) and "Home of the...(with a school graphic/logo) at the other end.

 

Q: Does the gym have to be closed to students while the work is being completed?

A: Yes. Unfortunately the gym does have to be closed while the artwork is being completed. There are products and materials laying around that could interfere with the students and the worker. The paint product also has an odour that may be bothersome to some individuals. (Note: Allowances are made ONLY if your gym has a divider or curtain to separate the students from the work area.)

 

Q: Do we need to clean or prep the mats before the artwork begins?

A: You may wipe down the mats with a damp cloth if necessary. If you have stage padding being painted please make sure your mats are aligned and hung properly in order to avoid irregular alignment when removing and replacing them after the artwork is completed. Stage mats are hung on velcro strips so this is an extremely important step especially if the mats are being used/moved on a regular basis.

 

Q: How long does the paint last? Will it fade or crack over time?

A: The product applied to the padding is specifically formulated for vinyl material. This means that once dry (in about 2 hours) and fully cured (about 36 hours), the product then becomes flexible and peel resistant. If the correct product is applied when creating your artwork it should last for many years to come. Please note that normal wear and tear on the mats such as shoe and scuff marks will occur over time.

The product applied to walls is an interior enamel based Acrylic Latex paint, generally the same paint that is already applied to school gym walls.

 

Q: Is there any maintanence required after the artwork is completed?

A: If you have to clean the mats please make sure you use only mild soap and warm water. Do not use harsh cleaners or chemicals over the finished artwork as this may change the state of the product over time.

 

Q: Do you create logos too? Can we get a copy of the artwork you created for our mats/wall padding so we can use it on T-Shirts, in our newsletters etc.?

A: Yes, we can custom create logos also. If your school doesn't have a logo we can create a custom design for printing purposes as well. Many schools use their mascot or logo design for T-shirts and posters. All logos are created in a vector based graphic drawing program (CorelDraw12). Vector based files are essential for printing as they don't alter the resolution of the graphic when enlarged. The cost for a logo design is $149 which includes 3 design choices and up to 3 revisions. The final file is emailed to you in the format of your choice.

 

Q: How will we be billed?

A: An invoice with the total plus tax is submitted to school administration on the final day of completion. Payment is due on the day of completion, however if a school is required to send payables to their Board, terms become 30 days. Payments not received within these terms will incur a 5% late fee.

 

Q: What are your hours of operation?

A: We can complete your artwork during the week and if necessary, on a weekend. Muddyford Marketing offers services to schools within Ontario all year round including March Break, Christmas and the summer months. We accomodate everyone accordingly.
